Viktor Troicki rallies out Sergiy Stakhovsky in second round – BNP Parisbas Masters 2011
Viktor Troicki, Serbian World No.19, outplayed his second round rival of BNP Paribas Masters 2011, Sergiy Stakhovsky, ranked world No.63, beating him down in straight set, 6-4, 6-4, in an hour and 27 minutes indoor hard blue court
match at Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy, Paris, France on Wednesday, 9th of November.
Troicki, advantaging from the disparity in ranking did seem to have an easy win over the Ukrainian as he has been in terrific form this season. Anyhow, with the two making their way down the court, the two warmed up followed with
the toss and the match start.
Starting off with the competition, Stakhovsky opened up the fixture serving his first game, however, the Ukrainian went down stumbling in the opening game as Troicki broke his challenger, followed by a service winner to lead the
set two games to zero.
Pulling back in the game, Stakhovsky managed to serve out game three, 2-1, and break back to level the scores at 2-2. Winning away a game each next, the two evened up again at 3-3 and then at 4-4 before the higher ranked Serbian
sparked up.
Breaking the 25-year-old, Troicki took the lead, 5-4, bagging game nine. Left with one more win to conclude the set, the Serbian world No.19 stormed away with a service winner ending the set with a double set point winner, 6-4,
and led the match, 1-0.
Struggling in the opening set, Stakhovsky continued serving first in the second set rolling down the scoreboard, 1-0. Following the Ukrainian, Troicki pocketed the second game, 1-1, levelling up the scores. The 25-year-old continued
with his second serve of the set, however, could not capitalize a winner and broke down, 1-2.
Taking advantage of the breakpoint, Troicki extended his lead from 2-1 to 3-1 serving out his second service game to lead the set. Cutting down the lead, Ukrainian stormed away games five, however, was unable to break back and
level up.
Maintaining his lead, Troicki added another winner to his lead, 4-2, before he destroyed the lower ranked Ukrainian breaking him down in game seven to lead 5-2. Stakhovsky did break back this time, cutting down the lead from 5-2,
to 5-4, break-n-serve, yet could not break back anymore.
Troicki finished off the second set the same score as the first set, 6-4, and finished of the fixture in straight sets and booked his seat in the third round of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event.
Making it through to the third round of BNP Paribas Masters 2011, Troicki will now face his compatriot and the world No.1, Novak Djokovic. The two will clash out on Thursday, 10th November for the semis spot.
