Viktor Troicki targets getting into top 20 in the coming season – Tennis News
Former world number 12, Viktor Troicki of Serbia, has accepted that last season was the worst of his career but he is hoping that he would do a good job in the next one.
2011 was the best season of Troicki’s career so far, as he attained his highest ever ranking of world number 12 in the month of June that year. However, the Serbian player has gone to the 38th position in the world rankings
now.
Troicki acknowledged that he could not give a consistent performance this year. The Serbian number three could not win even a single title and ended with a poor win/loss record of 27-29. However, the 26-year-old is motivated enough
to get back into the list of top-20 players in the world rankings.
In an interview with Herald Sun in Australia, Troicki said, "There were lots of ups and downs. It was maybe my worst season because I did not play that consistently. I'm not happy but I hope to improve back to the top-20. I lost
a bit of confidence in important matches and I'm hoping to get it back."
Troicki made a reasonable start to last season, reaching the quarter-finals of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open. However he was stunned in the second round of the Apia International Sydney and Australian Open by Alex Bogomolov Jr. and
Mikhail Kukushkin respectively.
Putting on a below average show in the French Open lead up tournaments, the Serbian player could not do any better at the Roland Garros, as he was upset by the then world number 45, Fabio Fognini, in the second round.
Troicki gave his only commendable performance at the Wimbledon Championships, where he advanced to the last-16 stage, losing to the then world number one and his compatriot, Novak Djokovic.
The Serbian star has hired the services of new coach, Jack Reader. The 6ft 4in tall player is confident that he would improve under the coaching of Reader.
Troicki stated, "Jack is ideal for me. I know him from the (ATP) tour. He's a great guy, extremely positive and he has experience. It's what I needed and it's going to be more fun."
The Serbian used to be his country’s second highest ranked player not a long time back. His compatriots are doing a good job, as Djokovic is sitting on the top of the world rankings and Janko Tipsarevic is also inside the top 10.
