Viktor Troicki topples over Denis Istomin in second round – Malaysian Open 2011
World No.15, Viktor Troicki, played his 2nd round match of the Malaysian open against Denis Istomin, Uzbek world No.61. Playing for an hour and 18 minutes, the Serbian thrashed his counterpart, 6-1, 6-4, to conquer the
indoor hard court at Putra Stadium, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur on Thursday, 29th September.
Istomin, though had been in great form displaying form his previous wins, however, Troicki was a bit much to handle for the 25-year-old. Troicki on the other hand, did struggle at Cincinnati, US Open and at Davis cup, however,
made a wise decision to enter the Malaysian Open and regain his winning form.
Anyhow, the two walked down the light blue Indoor hard court, waving back for the cheers that came from the stands. Winning the toss, the two took their positions as Istomin got ready to serve first. Troicki, on the contrary, had
his confidence striking the roof. Breaking the world No.61 in the opening game the Serbian ignited the flame and serve next, 0-1.
Serving out game 2, the world No.15 took lead in the set, 2-0. Rolling down his side of the scoreboard, Istomin finally won his first game to cut the lead to 1-2, however, could not break back to level up the scores. With a marvellous
cross-court volley, Troicki went on to extend his lead to 1-3 before he broke the world No.61 enthralling his opponent in misery.
With scores at 4-1, the Serbian unrelenting bashing of his competitor ended the first set in style. With a serve-n-break tactic employed next, Troicki took over the first win, 6-1, to lead the match 1-0.
Overpowering his opponent in the first set, the world No.15 kept his balance as Istomin retaliated in the next set. Saving a certain breakpoint Troicki opened up first followed with the Uzbek levelling up next, 1-1. Winning on
respective serves the two equalled up at 2-2, 3-3 and then at 4-4 before the Serbian went fabulous.
Istomin had his last chances screwed when Troicki served out game 9 winning 3 game-points and booted out his counterpart with down-the-line forehand breakpoint finish to win the set 6-4 and the match 2-0.
Troicki now moves into the quarterfinal round of the event where he will take on Dmitry Tursunov of Russia.
