Viktoriya Dergunova claims Women’s Singles U19 title at Croatian Junior International 2012
Russia’s budding shuttler Viktoriya Dergunova stole the limelight as she claimed Women’s Singles U19 title after defeating her higher ranked country-mate Elizaveta Pyatina in the final clash of Croatian Junior International 2012 in Croatia, on Sunday, October
7.
The spirited Viktoriya, who was the third seed in Women’s Singles draw, played to her maximum potential and registered a comprehensive victory over Elizaveta who was the second seed in the tournament.
Viktoriya entered into the court in a dominating fashion as she played with speed and control which helped her to stay in commanding position all the way and she finished off the match in two sets with a huge margin.
In the meanwhile, the higher ranked Elizaveta showed aggression on court in opening rallies but she failed to live up to expectations and eventually lost the match in just 19 minutes without putting up strong resistance.
In the starting game, Viktoriya showed urgency in taking a comfortable lead on score board by playing with tremendous precision.
The second seeded Elizaveta was shocked with the severe treatment that she received from her lower ranked rival and remained miles behind her rival until the one-minute break.
After the mid-game break, Viktoriya did not let her rival to create a difference as she kept the pace of rallies high and maintained her grip over the pace.
The in-form Viktoriya stayed ahead of her rival by maintaining a comfortable distance and eventually took the set with a huge 21-7 score on the board.
In the second set, Viktoriya again was in leading position from the opening points as she played with precision and managed to set up a considerable gap until the end of opening half.
The third seeded Viktoriya continued her positive run and maintained her upper hand over Elizaveta while playing with variations.
The powerful smashes and deceptive shots in all areas of the court helped Viktoriya to wind up the second game with a huge 21-14 score on the board.
Viktoriya ended up the final battle of the tournament in a dominating manner with a stunning margin of 21-7 and 21-14.
