Tito Vilanova has come out and stated that he was proud of his players despite their shock defeat to Celtic in Glasgow last night
It was the 125th anniversary of the Scottish champions, Celtic. And as usual the atmosphere inside the Celtic park was electrifying.
The visitors started the match brightly and were the team that dominated the tempo of the game throughout much of the game but it was not to be their night as Celtic pulled a shock 2-1 victory over the Catalans.
Barca’s s last night group-stages loss was its first in three years.
Vilanova was quick to congratulate Celtic for their victory and admitted the atmosphere inside the stadium was something that he has not witnessed before.
“First I have to congratulate Celtic on their victory,” a gracious Vilanova said. “The stadium was spectacular. I have been in many stadiums but never seen anything like it. I wish them many more years.”
The Barca coach talked about his side’s vulnerability in set pieces as Celtic’s first goal came from a corner.
“We knew where we would suffer, at corners; they only had two and scored from one.”
Vilanova also had words of praise for their opponent’s goalkeeper who had a great match as he managed to produce several great saves during the game.
The tactician thought the Hoops shot-stopper, Fraser Forster, had a great night.
"You have to give credit to their goalkeeper [Fraser Forster], who played a great game. “
Finally, the 44-year-old restated his believe that last night’s game in Glasgow was Barca’s biggest remaining match for the year. However, he admitted how fortunate they are, given that they are still on top of the group with two
games still to come.
“I said that this was the biggest game remaining this year, but we are very fortunate that we still have two games and if we win one we will finish first in the group,” he concluded.
