Even though many thought that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-Song-c4804 will play in the centre-back role, Vilanova chose Adriano over the Cameroonian and the Catalan boss finally reveals why he made this decision.
A lot of fingers were pointed at Tito Vilanova as he selected the Brazilian full-back, Adriano, as a centre-back against Real Madrid.
Adriano usually plays as a right or left full-back at Barcelona. Moreover, his height and physique does not allow him to play in the centre-back role.
However, when the team sheet for the game against Real Madrid was announced, Tito Vilanova played the former Sevilla man right in the centre of defence alongside Javier Mascherano.
As http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Alves played as full-backs.
Everyone expected Tito Vilanova to play the newly signed player, Alex Song, in the centre of defence, alongside the former Argentinean skipper, Javier Mascherano.
However, Vilanova had other things in mind as he decided to play http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Adriano-c3773 in the centre of defence.
While speaking about his decision to play Adriano as a centre-back, Tito Vilanova said:
“I spoke to him [Adriano] about Madrid’s movement and how they always play balls over the top. He is a quick player and we wanted him to be up to it, so I thank him for what he did.”
“When [Seydou] Keita left Song came in to play as a holding midfielder, but we were playing Madrid and he is still not quite ready, something that counted against him.”
“Song is fast but not as fast as Adriano. We made many changes but Adriano played really well. I was the one who decided to sign Song, nobody else, and [Marc] Bartra will have more games in the future but I didn’t want to expose him in this situation.”
Barcelona are currently missing out on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carles-Puyol-c8331, Gerard Pique and Eric Abidal and this international break has definitely come in as a blessing in disguise as this will allow the injured Barcelona stars to recover before the Spanish La Liga and the UEFA
Champions League kicks off again.
