As La Blaugrana prepare for the new season’s campaign, their newly instated trainer is convinced that a tough pre-season will prove beneficial for the side.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 head coach, Tito Vilanova, has expressed that a tough schedule in the pre-season friendly matches is an advantage for the Catalan giants.
The Spaniard explained that Barca need to speed up in order to perform in the next season.
He went on claiming that playing competitive matches prior to the start of the season will help the Nou Camp outfit prepare better for the new season’s campaign.
The Copa del Rey winners clashed with French Ligue 1 giants, Paris Saint-Germain, over the weekend. The fixture which saw the Blaugrana achieve victory after a penalty shootout was massively competitive and tested the Spanish giants to the fullest.
Even though it was a friendly encounter, both sides did not show any signs of complacency and the audiences were quite entertained.
Next up, the Catalan giants are set to face English Premier League giants, Manchester United, in yet another competitive friendly match. The two footballing juggernauts will lock horns on Wednesday in what is believed to be a very promising encounter.
Vilanova is content with his side’s current schedule and believes that it will only assist the Catalan giants in preparing for the 2012/2013 campaign.
The man, who formerly served as Pep Guardiola’s assistant, is of the opinion that the next season will be full of challenges for his men.
As he attempts to live up to the legacy left behind by his predecessor, it is not difficult to imagine that the Catalan tactician has little room for error.
While talking to reporters, Tito was quoted as saying:
"I prefer a tough pre-season, so that we quickly get up to the level we need to be at. What we wanted from the game against Paris Saint-Germain was that the players regained match fitness. I gave them time on the pitch according to how much time they had
got in training. [Lionel] Messi played the whole game because he felt good. Our aim had been to give him as long as possible and he felt good and wanted to finish the game."
Vilanova will kick-start his first season with Barcelona by facing Real Sociedad in the first La Liga game next month.
