The Catalan tactician has insisted that there is no point in fuelling the rivalry that exists between the two Spanish giants, stating that he has nothing against his compatriot at the Spanish capital.
Barcelona’s head coach, Tito Vilanova, has made an attempt to bury the hatchet between himself and Real Madrid’s Jose Mourinho.
The man who served as an assistant coach under Pep Guardiola, stressed that it is important that he resolves the differences with the Portuguese tactician.
The two managers share a very complicated relationship as the enmity between their clubs is reflected in their attitude towards one another.
Vilanova and Mourinho made it to the papers when they were found embroiled in a confrontation in Barca’s Spanish Super Cup clash with Madrid last season.
As the hard-fought encounter reached extra time, temperatures began to boil and frustrations became vivid. Both sets of players appeared somewhat volatile, and one insignificant incident became the reason for a fight which encompassed a number of players.
As the referee attempted to bring matters under control, the Blancos boss was observed poking Guardiola’s assistant in the eye. The act was caught on camera and both men landed themselves in trouble with the Spanish Football Federation, the RFEF.
Mourinho was handed a two-match ban, with Vilanova receiving a ban for one match. However, the decision was recently revoked and both professionals were cleared of all charges.
In response to this, the Blaugrana coach remarked that he respects the decision taken by the RFEF and went on to state that it is important to avoid such incidents in the future.
While talking to reporters, Tito was quoted as saying:
"The fact that, after a year, we are still talking about what happened with Mourinho in the Super Cup - it tires me. Only the judge sets the sanctions and there is a measure of grace, I accept that. The punishment is not whether one or two games are given.
The greatest punishment is that these images will last for many years.”
"We are in the world of football and punishments must be accepted. He [Mourinho] greeted me in the game at the Bernabeu and I do not have any bad feelings."
Jose Mourinho is set to come face to face with Tito Vilanova in this season’s Spanish Super Cup final which will take place prior to the start of the year’s league campaign.
