As Barcelona take on Granada over the upcoming weekend, they will be without their first-choice defenders, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carles-Puyol-c8331 and Gerard Pique, leaving Vilanova in a fix.
Barcelona will be facing Granada over the weekend as the teams return their focus on La Liga after playing the midweek in Europe.
The Catalan giants hosted Spartak Moscow and won their respective fixture 3-2.
While the three points were welcomed by La Blaugrana, the loss of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gerard-c14664 Pique because of an ankle injury is something which can cause trouble for the Nou Camp-based outfit.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 first lost their first-choice defender, Carles Puyol, because of a knee injury.
Now, after the game against Moscow, Barcelona will be without the Spanish centre-back, Gerard Pique, as well.
With both these players gone, there is not a single natural centre-back left at the hands of La Blaugrana and they will have to settle for players like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-Song-c4804.
While speaking about the available options against Granada, Vilanova was quite calm about the situation and said that even though he would love to have all the players available at hand, football is a game where injuries can cause such problems.
The Catalan boss also mentioned that he can play the young star, Marc Bartra, and stated that the youngster has the ability to play in the Barcelona first team and that is the reason why he is being included in the squad.
While speaking about the available options against Granada, Tito Vilanova said:
“Tomorrow I will decide who plays. If Bartra is in the first team it is because he has the ability. Marc will get games, but the season has only just begun. Bartra is in the first team because he deserves it, not because his contract may say so.”
“Song can also be brought in to play at centre-back. He has many levels. He fits perfectly and can also play in defence. I was surprised because he understands everything I explain to him first time.”
“I am more at ease when I have everyone available, but we know that in football there are injuries. It happens to every team, there is no excuse.”
Barcelona will take on Granada over the weekend and Vilanova would try and win the game in order to put more pressure on the current Spanish champions, Real Madrid.
