Aston Villa completed three signings on deadline day in a frantic move to strengthen their squad after suffering a poor start to the Premier League campaign.

Defensively, the team was not doing well. Villa lost their Premier League opener at Upton Park against West Ham, but had put in a decent performance. Their second game was an entirely different story. Villa conceded 3 goals to an impressive Everton side

Yesterday, the club made moves for three players, signing striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christian-Benteke-c9056 from Genk and midfielder Ashley Westwood from Crewe.
Benteke was signed up for £7 million from the Belgian outfit and Westwood cost the club only £2.5 million. Villa’s third signing was a move for Chesterfield target man http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jordan-c2929 Bowery for a mere £1 million.
Paul Lambert was delighted with the signings, and must be a relieved man to have sorted out his squad before the transfer window closed up. Reflecting on his transfer business, the manager said:
“I’m delighted with the lads I’ve brought in. It was a big day for us. It’s a step-by-step process but I have the confidence they can go and compete with everybody.”
“The youthful enthusiasm of them all and their will to succeed will outweigh a lot of things.”
“I’m all for giving people an opportunity and I get great satisfaction when they go and perform and compete.”
The new signings join the likes of Dutch imports Karim El-Ahmadi, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brett-Holman-c8047, who were signed earlier this summer. Villa have a sizeable squad, but it remains to be seen just how effective it will prove to be.
