Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert was relieved to see the return of striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darren-Bent-c10358 as the player rounded of the club’s pre-season tour with a brace in the 3-3 draw with Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.
Villa played the final pre-season friendly in a thrilling contest against German side Werder Bremen. Before going into the game, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Lambert had admitted that this was probably going to be the toughest game of the pre-season and his most testing challenge
as the new manager.
The game had considerable hype surrounding it and was one of the high-profile friendlies that took place on the weekend before the competitive season resumes this Saturday. Villa had travelled to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 with an 18-man squad which consisted of most of its
key players. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stephen-Warnock-c34158 had however been left out of the travelling party and manager Paul Lambert remained coy over the player’s future with the club.

The striker has since been troubled by injuries which have put him on the sidelines. His injury woes had also prevented him from getting a place in England’s Euro 2012 squad back in June.
However, back to fitness, Bent looks sharp and dangerous as ever. The striker is confident that he can lead the team from the front and repay the fans for their support last season, despite Villa’s poor home and away form. Lambert was very impressed after
the game and had this to say:
“It’s not really about the results in pre-season, even though it is nice to win games.”
“It is more about fitness and making progress and I think we have done that. It was another good test for us.”
With new signings Karim El-Ahmadi, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ron-Vlaar-c31697, Bent is hopeful of securing a top 10 finish with the club. Villa are understood to be still in the market for new players and are currently looking to bring in a new left-back. Reports have linked
the club to Ipswich’s Aaron Cresswell, although an official bid hasn’t been made yet.
