Villages in Scotland?

dont know if this makes sense - - would like to know if there's a drive from Glasgow that's kind of like a drive from Nice into Provence where we could pass through a number of lively villages with shops and restaurants and old walkways (kind of like Old San Juan for example). Would rather avoid very sparse places. Is there anything like this in Scotland?

  1. I do not know what you think a "village" is, but few Scottish villages have more than two shops and fewer have restaurants. As for "walkways", where do you think you are.

How about the following for a day out?

Leave Glasgow on the M8 towards Glasgow Airport, leaving at Junction 26. Take the southbound A736 to Barrhead and Lugton. At Lugton, join the A735 through Dunlop and Stewarton to Kilmaurs. Here take the B751 through Crosshouse and Gatehead to the A77. Turn right onto the A77. Continue for about 14 miles until the village of Minishant. Just after the village turn left onto the B7045 to Kirkmichael and onto Straiton. At Straiton take the B741 through Dalmellington to New Cumnock. Turn left onto the A76 and continue to Cumnock, here taking the eastbound A70 to Muirkirk. At Muirkirk, turn left onto the B743 through Dunvagel to Strathaven. Here take the A726 to East Kilbride and then follow the road signs back to Glasgow.

About 140 miles - a good five hour drive.
