In absence of the Italian-Brazilian first choice pair, it was touted that Villarreal will move for the services of Saviola.
Portuguese sources had earlier reported that Saviola’s agent, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-c11058 Queiruga, was asked for his availability and whether he will be open for a winter transfer window move.
The Argentine has found himself surplus to first team requirements at Estadio Da Luz. His contract with the Portuguese club will end at the end of the season, however, the club retains the option to extend it by a year.
Saviola has played for a number of clubs in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604, Sevilla, and Real Madrid.
Following Roig’s statement, however, any transfer for the out of favour Argentine looks unlikely.
"If we signed all the players that come out in the press, we would have 132 in our squad," Roig told reporters. "There have been absolutely no contacts regarding Saviola.
"He is a player who is not in our plans right now, but of course that he is an important player. Right now, we are thinking about recovering the injured players we have."
Villarreal have endured a torrid start to La Liga. They currently stand in the bottom half of the table, occupying the 13th place.
