Villarreal’s Diego Lopez believes his side could still be in the finals of UEFA Europa League
Villarreal goalkeeper, Diego Lopez, has revealed that his side could still qualify for the final of UEFA Europa League by beating http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186. The shot-stopper seemed optimistic with his comments and denied to give up on the possibility of playing the final
in Dublin.
The goalkeeper admitted that it would require hard work to overcome the huge deficit but showed complete faith in his strike force ahead of the second leg. The Yellow Submarine lost the first-leg by a massive 5-1 margin after leading 1-0 at the half time.
Both teams will now contest the second-leg on Thursday, May 05, at El Madrigal. Villarreal will have to score at least four goals without conceding in order to confirm their participation in the final.
Lopez was confident that his side will not be under pressure during the tie and would go all out against the Portuguese champions. He was delighted with the fact that Villarreal would be playing on their home ground, which will give them immense confidence
and belief in front of the vociferous home fans.
Further commenting upon his team’s chances, the 29-year-old added, "We need to believe in ourselves first so we can turn the tie around. It could hardly be more difficult, but it's not impossible. It's going to be difficult, but in the dressing room we are
convinced that we can achieve it."
While reflecting upon his team’s first leg performance, the former Real Madrid man mentioned that Villarreal were quite outstanding in the first half and deserved the lead. It all went wrong in the second half when Porto came out with some venom and flare,
and gave it their all. It was astonishing for the keeper to believe that Porto were allowed to score as many as five goals in just the 30 minutes, which has made it very difficult for the Yellow Submarine to make a comeback from that slump.
Diego concluded by saying, "Porto played great football for 30 minutes, but we were better in the rest of the game. We are ready to give our all and show that we are a great team and that we can beat them. We have total confidence in our strikers. I hope
that we each have a perfect game to achieve something historic for this club. Something that would be remembered for a long time."
Villarreal are currently fourth in La Liga with 60 points and have four games left to play that will end this year’s campaign.
