The 41-year old American goalkeeper has strongly been linked with a move to former club Blackburn Rovers, who are currently playing in the Coca-Cola Championship.
Friedel has not played in a game in almost over a month, which has raised doubts regarding his future at the club. Summer signing and future club No.1 http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429, and has since
been played in front of goal, keeping Friedel on the bench.
Previously, it had been the other way around; with Lloris warming the bench and Friedel’s impressive performances ensuring him a spot in the team’s starting 11.
Lloris is considered the long-term replacement for the American, and it seems that manager Andre Villas-Boas is keen to play him more often now. The Frenchman did have to wait patiently for his chance, with the manager claiming that he wished to rotate his
goalkeepers based on what he deems fit for the team.
Friedel is expected to make his first appearance for the club in over a month in the Europa League tonight against Panathinaikos. Villas-Boas insists that Friedel remains a major part of his plans and is one of the club’s ‘best assets’. Speaking to reporters,
the manager said:
“We are trying to hold on to our best assets and Brad is certainly one of them. Brad has been excellent. I spoke to him and he has been such an important player for us. Rotation has not been because of performances.”
When asked about interest from Blackburn, Villas-Boas replied:
“I don’t know anything about it.”
In other news, Tottenham are expecting first team players Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Scott Parker to return as early as the Swansea City game on 16th December. Both players have been out of contention since the season started, and have been a major
loss for the club. Villas-Boas added:
“They have both been out for some time but we have to be sensible with the situation. Parker is an amazing player and it is a big boost for us.”
