Tottenham Manager Andre Villas-Boas has issued another warning to want away midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857, saying that the player must respect the club and come to terms with the fact that he may not end up moving away from White Hart Lane this summer.
The Portuguese manager has told Modric to accept that fact that he will not be sold unless another club meet’s Tottenham’s asking price. The midfielder has been linked with moves away from the club for the past two seasons.
Modric had himself publicly stated his desire to leave the club after Tottenham failed to qualify for the Champions League for the second consecutive season. The player was visibly frustrated as he was forced to stay with the side, but still managed to put
in performance after performance for Spurs.
The player has been linked to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, Manchester United and most recently Real Madrid. The Spanish giants looked like favourites to land Modric’s services, but have failed to meet Tottenham’s asking price.
This year may have proved to be just too much for the Croatian, who tried everything to force a move away from White Hart Lane. He refused to report for training and also failed to travel with the Spurs squad for their pre-season tour of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/United-States-c3034
last month. Modric has since apologized for his behaviour after he was fined by the club.
Recently, he was instructed to train alone as Tottenham wait for Madrid to make an acceptable offer for his signature. Villas-Boas has warned the 26-year old to be ready to accept the fact that he may end up staying and urged him to act as a thorough professional
regarding the whole situation.
"He is training alone because we decided to do that until his mental state is ready to return to the team," Villas-Boas said. "It is important that, in the coming days, he understands he must return to the first team. We respect the player's ambition, but
he must also respect the club."
"Until we receive a suitable offer for the player, he will not go. The contacts we have had with other clubs have not met with what Tottenham wants for the player. We respect the size of Madrid and the other interested clubs, but they must respect what we
are doing too."
