Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas admitted that his team looked anxious as they failed to win at home once again, conceding a late equalizer to Norwich City on Saturday.
Spurs have now gone on a run of three games without a win. The North London club conceded a late goal courtesy of Norwich’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robert-c31222 Snodgrass towards the dying minutes of the game.
Moussa Dembele had scored the only Tottenham goal, and impressed on his debut. The Belgian was a late summer signing by Villas-Boas, and is viewed as a replacement for the recently departed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857.
Dembele would have hoped for a repeat of the performance by Fulham in the Premier League opener where they thrashed Norwich 5-0 at Craven Cottage. Dembele had been exceptional in that game for his former club, creating two goals and managing a 96% pass completion
rate.
Despite creating a number of chances, Tottenham failed to capitalize and could not see the game out. The players looked ready to celebrate a victory but were dealt a late blow when Snodgrass score through a low driven shot, burying the ball in the back of
the net and beyond Brad Friedel’s reach.
The American goalkeeper had an immense game, keeping Norwich at bay through a series of brilliant saves. Had it not been for Friedel, Tottenham could have gone down 3-0 in the first half.
Reflecting on the result, Villas-Boas talked about pre-season anxiety and asked the fans for more patience, saying that his team needed time to adjust and settle.
“It was a different game to last week but a goal conceded in more or less the same way. It is disappointing for us to suffer again in the dying moments of the game.”
“When things happen like this we have to work on our concentration and our sharpness to make sure these situations don’t happen again.”
“Everybody wants to build more confidence by getting those first three points and when that happens we will feel less anxiety and show a little bit more talent.”
Tottenham's will travel to the Madejski Stadium to face Reading after the international break, and will be under immense pressure as they continue the search for their first win of the season.
