Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has backed his team to cope without striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Emmanuel-Adebayor-c12526 in their next three matches, and expects his players to bounce back from their third consecutive loss in the Premier League.
The striker had scored the opening goal of the game, but was later sent off for a dangerous tackle on Arsenal’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Santi-Cazorla-c32505 which ultimately made Tottenham implode as Arsenal went on to win the derby 5-2.
The Togolese now faces a three-match suspension, but Villas-Boas believes his side have enough quality and firepower to deal with the player’s absence. Even though http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jermain-Defoe-c18359 remains the only striker on Tottenham’s books, Villas-Boas remains upbeat and
optimistic. The manager said:
“Do we have enough firepower? Yes. We have one of the league’s top scorers in Jermain Defoe. Obviously recently we have been playing with Ade and he’s been excellent, but we have to adapt without him.”
“Ade and Defoe have flourished well in the past and they know each other very well so to not have that will be hard to take, but the good thing is that the games against West Ham, Liverpool and Fulham are in one week so the player can be back quickly.”
The manager had been surprisingly upbeat following the derby defeat, and despite losing by such a marginal score line, Villas-Boas had been proud of his team’s ‘fighting’ performance. The Portuguese did however raise a few eyebrows when he claimed his side
were in control of the game from start to finish.
Many will argue that the score line flattered Arsenal slightly, but Tottenham never looked up for matching http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429’s quality in midfield and their ruthlessness up front. Defensively, Spurs were very poor at times, and were stretched to their limits as Arsenal
used their width to capitalize on the handicap.
The club faces a difficult and congested fixture list in the coming days, with two games this week and two games the next. Spurs host West Ham in the Premier League, and will then play http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 4 days later and then travel to Craven Cottage to play against
Fulham. All three Premier League games will be played within a period of 7 days.
