Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has dismissed reports that suggested the North London club were in negotiations with German forward http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Miroslav-Klose-c26049.
Tottenham had been linked with the German international all throughout the summer as their search for a striker continued. It was understood that Tottenham were interested in signing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Emmanuel-Adebayor-c12526 on a permanent basis from Manchester City.
However, despite signing the Togolese later on, the club had experienced some problems regarding his wages and salary. At that moment, Tottenham started being linked to a number of strikers all across Europe.
Miroslav Klose was one of the big names that Spurs were linked with along with a host of other forwards, including the likes of Brazilian Leandro Damiao and Valencia’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-Soldado-c31367. However, having signed Adebayor towards the end of the summer transfer
window, Spurs ended their search for a forward.
Recently, more reports in the media started circulating that the North London club had been involved in negotiations with Klose, who is currently playing with Italian outfit http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lazio-c39775. The German himself revealed earlier this week that he had turned down an
opportunity to move to White Hart Lane, and had instead opted to see out his contract with Lazio.
The 34-year old prolific forward claimed that Tottenham had approached him, but he declined their offer. The player said:
"Tottenham came looking for me, but I signed for Lazio until 2014 and I intend to respect that contract."
Klose is http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904’s most prolific goal scorer and has an impressive 64 goals for his country. He is 4 goals short of equalling Gerd Muller’s all time international goals record for Germany, and would’ve been an important addition to the Spurs squad.
However, manager Andre Villas-Boas denied that the club had actually made an approach to sign the forward. He did admit that he had been presented with an opportunity to sign him, but never followed it up. The Portuguese said:
"The player had been offered to us by the usual round of agents, but there was never any real negotiation.”
"Klose is an important player, but I have very good strikers. With Defoe, Adebayor and Dempsey, I can feel comfortable."
Spurs host Lazio in tonight’s Europa League fixture, and Villas-Boas is expecting a tough and challenging game against the Italian side.
