Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas was disappointed after last night’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019 at Goodison Park.
The manager bemoaned the two late goals Spurs conceded which saw them throw away their 0-1 lead. Two late goals deep into stoppage time by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nikica-Jelavic-c27906 ensured Everton a hard fought victory.
Clint Dempsey had given the visitor’s a lead after 14 minutes into the game. The American international has been in fine form for Spurs this season, and his goal looked set to earn Villas-Boas’ men the 3 points.
The score line remained the same up until stoppage time, when Pienaar and Jelavic grabbed two quick goals within 88 seconds to steal victory for the home side.
Tottenham have kept only one clean sheet in the Premier League in their away games and have conceded 10 goals in the final 15 minutes while on the road.
Villas-Boas, who had been eager to seal a 4th consecutive league victory, was disappointed after he saw his side throw away their win last night. The manager admitted that Tottenham need to stop conceding in the final minutes and need to work
on seeing games off.
Speaking in his post-match conference, the Portuguese said:
“It was a disappointing result; bearing in mind we were leading taking the game into the last minute.  There are so many different reasons. It is not really easy to explain because a couple of them come from different situations.”
“It is something we are aware of, which is why we speak about it openly, and it is something we have to improve, seeing off games. It is not a mental thing, it is the nature of the game because it was our best period for quite some time in the second half.”
“It is a difficult blow to take,” he added.
The defeat drops Tottenham to 5th place and takes Everton into the top 4. Both teams are level on points, with West Brom and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 in 6th and 7th positions respectively.
Tottenham will next host Swansea City at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
