Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has rushed to the defence of Steven Caulker who has been handed a two-match ban by UEFA, and expects the English FA to appeal on behalf of the player.
Caulker was involved in the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Serbia-c3002 where a brawl took place between players from both teams. The English defender was found guilty of improper conduct by UEFA and has been handed a two-match ban which rules him out for
the Euro 2013 games against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Norway-c2974.
The brawl had broke out after Serbian fans has allegedly racially abused the English players, particularly Danny Rose of Sunderland. The European football governing body handed out heavy punishment for all those involved and imposed bans on Caulker and teammate
Thomas Ince. The Serbian FA was fined £65,000 while the fans who were involved have been banned from games for two years.
Andre Villas-Boas believes that the English FA should act on behalf of Caulker and appeal against his two-game ban. The Portuguese was extremely unhappy with UEFA’s action against his player, and rushed to his defence, saying:
“I spoke to the player and he is obviously very disappointed. It is difficult to take after what I heard from the players – from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-c10193 Rose and Steven, from Adam Smith – the situation they went through to see that the outcome is this one.”
“I imagine the FA will appeal. I think they are entitled to do it. They have shown disappointment with the decision and I think they are going to take it forward in various different ways which I think they should include trying to put right what is wrong
in Steven’s sanction.”
Steven Caulker had spent last season out on a loan spell with Swansea City, but returned to White Hart Lane when Villas-Boas was appointed manager. The player is understood to be highly rated by his manager and has become a regular first team starter this
season.
Caulker has been included for this Sunday’s game against Swansea City at White Hart Lane, while http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Dawson-c25288, Scott Parker and Benoit Assou-Ekotto may also return for the clash.
