Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has been surprisingly upbeat about Saturday’s defeat to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429, but has admitted that the team needs to improve defensively.
Spurs found themselves at the receiving end of a 5-2 thrashing courtesy of their local rivals Arsenal. This is not the first time Tottenham have lost out to their friendly neighbours, and Saturday’s score line was similar to last season’s derby at the Emirates,
where Arsenal had scored 5 goals against Tottenham’s 2.
Though Spurs were a man down, it takes nothing away from Arsenal’s offensive play. The Gunners completely ran rampant and were ruthless and relentless in attack.
They scored 3 goals in the first half to cancel out Adebayor’s opening goal, and then scored 2 more after the break. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gareth-Bale-c14422 had got a goal back for the visitors, but it meant little and if anything, it only flattered the visitors.
Tottenham had been in control of the game up until http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Emmanuel-Adebayor-c12526 got sent off, but still managed to show their attacking flair and tenacity whenever they could.
Villas-Boas has insisted that his team can be proud of their fighting performance, but has admitted that they need some improvement in defence. Speaking to the press, the Portuguese said:
“When you are poor, it can do damage, but when you play like this I don’t think it can. We are a good attacking side but we have been conceding a couple of goals. We understand that we have to do better.”
“But we suffered three in the first half; we suffered two in the second half. There was attacking volume for both sides. Arsenal were efficient in their chances and we weren’t as efficient in ours.”
Meanwhile, defender and captain http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/William-Gallas-c36874 has insisted that the team will bounce back from the defeat and has urged his teammates to rediscover the form that saw Tottenham go on a 4-match winning streak.
The derby defeat marks Tottenham’s third consecutive loss in the league and Gallas has rallied his team to recover from the humiliation they faced at the hands of their rivals. The player said:
“We have a target, we have to keep working. Work, work, work and it will come.”
