Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has hailed star winger Gareth Bale as one of the world’s best players after the Welshman notched up his first Premier League hat-trick in the 0-4 win over Aston Villa last night.
Tottenham travelled to Villa Park to face a Villa team fresh from an 8-0 thumping courtesy of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 last weekend. Spurs were fresh from a 0-0 draw against Stoke City, and needed a win to get back in the top 4.
The first half ended in a stalemate, with Tottenham seeing more of the ball and creating more chances in front of goal. Villa also looked threatening on the break, and were looking far better than the side that was battered at Stamford Bridge last weekend.
The second half started with Villa attacking more, but they were punished on the break as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jermain-Defoe-c18359 scored the first goal of the night.
From there on, it was all Tottenham. The visitors scored 3 more goals, with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gareth-Bale-c14422 at the centre of all attacks. The Welshman was without a doubt the star of the night, scoring his first Premier League hat-trick.
The winger scored in the 61st, 73rd and the 84th minutes to round up his hat-trick and a well deserved 3 points for the visitors. The hat-trick takes Bale’s tally to 9 league goals for the season and takes him up to 6th
on the goal scoring charts.
Manager Andre Villas-Boas was full of praise for his star player and said:
“He is up there with the best. He is showing tremendous skills and talent, I think he is improving every day – his is such a young player – and he is helping the team. He is one of our major assets.”
“His personality is wonderful, he is going through an excellent moment of his professional and personal life, and we are benefitting from that.”
When asked if he thought Bale would get better, he replied:
“I think so. You always expect that the team can make an individual even better. As he keeps learning, he will feel even better and probably his performances will improve.”
Tottenham currently sit at 4th spot, with 33 points to their name.
