Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas is backing defender Steven Caulker despite allegations that claim the player was involved in the brawl that resulted after the England vs. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Serbia-c3002 under-21 game.
The game had ended with controversy, and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749’s win over Serbia was overshadowed by racist chants from the fans and the resulting brawl between players from both teams.
The night was indeed very grim, as Sunderland player http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-c10193 Rose was subjected to racist chants by the Serbian supporters. The player looked distraught and was clearly having a horrible time on the pitch.
England grabbed a last minute winner, and Rose vented his frustration and anger by kicking the ball away, for which he was shown a red card.
You can hardly blame the player for reacting in the manner he did, especially after he was confronted by the Serbian players. The result was a fight between players from both teams, with referees trying to break up the brawl and the managerial staff also
involved.
It was a sad night for football, and many would look to move on from the incident. Recently, Serbian police have come out with findings from their investigation which suggest that Tottenham player Steven Caulker was involved in the incident that took place
after the final whistle.
The player was charged by Serbian police this week, but Villas-Boas has no concerns regarding Caulker and hopes that the player can come out from the incident unscathed and uncharged. Speaking to reporters, he said:
“We just don’t have enough information about this situation in Serbia. It’s not really for the club to give a further position regarding what we think. I am not worried about the consequences of what can happen.”
“I’m extremely happy with him. He is 20 years old and doing extremely well, coping with the best strikers in the world, Torres, Rooney, Van Persie.”
“All I can say is that I believe Steven is ready to play and there will be no problem if he is picked at the weekend. I think he can have a bright future.”
Tottenham host Wigan Athletic at White Hart Lane this weekend, and will be targeting all three points as they look to recover after their 4-game winning streak was ended by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 last month.
