Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas is waiting for news on the injured Moussa Dembele and hopes that the player does not have to undergo hip surgery.
The Belgian midfielder suffered the recurring hip injury that had troubled him during his time at Fulham last season. The player missed the final weeks of last campaign due to the injury, but had recovered during the pre-season.
Having joined Tottenham in the summer, Dembele started games for the club up until he experienced another setback while he was on duty with the Belgian national squad.
The player is now further facing six weeks on the sidelines if he undergoes surgery on his hip. Dembele has already missed Tottenham’s last four games because of the problem, and has been a major loss for the team.
Dembele’s absence was perhaps best felt in the 2-4 defeat at the hands of Chelsea last month at White Hart Lane. Tottenham badly missed the Belgian’s composure and ball retention ability. This had allowed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 to dominate the midfield and possession stats,
and ultimately cruise to victory.
Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas hopes the player can avoid surgery and return to the side as soon as possible. Speaking to reporters, the Portuguese tactician said:
“We want to avoid surgery if we can. If there happens to be surgery I think we are looking for one month, or more. Hopefully that will not happen because we have some good indications the player will be back in one week or two weeks.”
“It’s a pain that goes away or happened to go away when he was at Fulham for two or three days and the pain went away but it is still there. He can’t move himself properly so he will have a deeper scan on the injury so we can assess it properly.”
Tottenham currently lie in fourth spot, despite having had a slow start to the Premier League. The club has managed to bounce back from the 2-4 defeat against Chelsea. After beating Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium last week, Spurs will be eyeing all three
points when Wigan Athletic visit White Hart Lane today.
