Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has labelled the team’s 0-1 defeat against a struggling Wigan side as their worst performance of the season.
The manager was disappointed by his players as Wigan shocked Tottenham at White Hart Lane. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ben-Watson-c7458 scored the only goal of the game as Wigan snatched an unlikely away victory over Tottenham.
Tottenham struggled during the entire game, and were unconvincing going forward. Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi was a spectator for most of the game, and Tottenham were lucky not to have conceded more goals.
Going into the game, Tottenham had won five of their previous six Premier League games, and were favourites to emerge as the winners. However, they struggled throughout the 90 minutes, and were fortunate to have only conceded one goal.
The performance had frustrated the home support, who voiced their discontentment after the final whistle, booing the team when the game ended. The fans were also not very pleased when striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Emmanuel-Adebayor-c12526 in the second
half, much to the surprise of manager Andre Villas-Boas.
Speaking to reporters, the Portuguese said:
“It was maybe our worst performance of the season. We didn’t manage to keep the ball or pass well. Wigan were superior and our chances weren’t clear cut. There are various reasons why we played like this, we kept making mistakes and paid for them in the
end.”
The manager has now seen his team booed by the home fans on three occasions, the first two being the home draws against Norwich City and West Brom.
“We understand that they can show their frustrations,” Villas-Boas added. “We don’t do things to punish them or for the fans to show revolt. They want the win, but we want the win as much as them. We respect them.”
Wigan had been on a poor run of form before the victory at the Lane. The Latics had been on a 5-game winless streak before their 2-1 victory over West Ham the week before the Tottenham game. Tottenham have now lost three games in the league, and need to
recover with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 hot on their trail.
