Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has criticised http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857 for trying to force a transfer away from White Hart Lane.
The former Porto and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 boss has been a huge admirer of Modric and tried signing him while he was in charge of Chelsea last season. His attempts however failed as Tottenham were resolute in their stance of holding on to the Croatian.
Modric has been the protagonist of one of the longest transfer sagas the Premier League has seen. The midfielder had publicly stated his desire for Champions League football and a new challenge two seasons ago, but Tottenham were not willing to part ways
with him.
This season, everyone expected the midfielder to finally have his way and be allowed to leave White Hart Lane. Modric had been chased by the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United for a while now, but recently, clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain and Real
Madrid have also emerged as possible suitors for the player.
At the moment, Real Madrid look likely to land the player’s services, but Tottenham are not prepared to settle for anything less than £40 million. It is understood that Madrid are unwilling to pay over £25 million for Modric, which is why a transfer has
not materialised thus far.
Recent reports suggest that the Croatian has failed to travel with the Spurs squad on their tour of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/United-States-c3034.
Villas-Boas, when faced by the media, was full of praise for the Croatian at first, saying:
“He's good, very good. I tried to sign him last summer for Chelsea, so you can imagine. He will be a great loss. He's a player who can make a difference, who gives great clarity to the game when the team needs and can play in various positions."
The manager was however quick to criticise the midfielder on his behaviour and added:
"I think Modric is wrong. This will go against him.”
"He has worsened the situation with what he's doing and now the chairman is very angry.”
"This is also not a good time for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Levy, who is in the USA at the moment, because his wife is ill."
It has been learnt that Modric has been fined £80,000 by the club for refusing to train with the team.
