Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has given his opinion on Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo’s dismissal yesterday, and insists that it is just ‘another day at the office’ for the London club.
Villas-Boas is no stranger to West London club as he spent 8 months in charge of the European champions last season. It is understood that Villas-Boas had been brought in to deliver the attacking football that owner Roman Abramovich and the Chelsea fans
so dearly craved.
The Portuguese made a number of changes in the squad as he looked to bring about his ‘revolution’. He signed the likes of Juan Mata and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Romelu-Lukaku-c31672. However, Chelsea failed to get results under the Portuguese’s stewardship and struggled in the league.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s loss to West Brom in the Premier League in March led to the manager’s dismissal, and many thought the sacking was a harsh decision. Roberto Di Matteo was appointed as interim manager, and ultimately guided the team to a FA Cup victory and the popular
Champions League win.
Di Matteo was then handed control of the club and was appointed as full time manager. Villas-Boas was later appointed as manager of Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
Yesterday, Di Matteo suffered the same fate as managers of Chelsea’s past and was dismissed by Abramovich. This followed after the Blues' defeat to Juventus in the Champions League on Tuesday night, and many had already seen it coming.
Following the sacking, Villas-Boas spoke to the press and said that there was nothing surprising about the incident while he also praised Di Matteo’s achievements at the club. The Portuguese said:
“At Chelsea I think another sacking is just like any other day at the office, that’s my interpretation. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 has achieved so much in such little amount of time. His CV is maybe one of the best in the world now – he has won the Champions League and the
FA Cup too.”
Di Matteo has been replaced by former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 manager Rafael Benitez on an interim basis as the club looks for a permanent solution, with Pep Guardiola strongly linked. Villas-Boas added:
“It was difficult for Robbie and I wish him well for the rest of his career. Regarding the club, it’s their decision, it’s what they think will take them forward but other than that I can’t comment.”
