Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has praised Steven Caulker following the young defender’s goal scoring international debut for England in the 4-2 defeat against Sweden on Wednesday night.
At the age of 20 years and 321 days, Caulker became Tottenham’s third-youngest England international, and scored on his first full debut for the Three Lions when he scored the second goal for England against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sweden-c3015.
The player successfully converted Steven Gerrard’s free kick by heading it in, and thus broke Jermain Defoe’s record of being the youngest Spurs player to ever score for the England team.
Caulker’s goal had given England the lead at the Friends Arena, a lead which http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 managed to hold on to until Caulker was substituted in the 74th minute.
What followed was a touch of individual brilliance and magic. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Zlatan-Ibrahimovic-c38029 scored three goals against the Three Lion, rounding off his hat-trick and scoring a total of 4 goals on the night.
The big Swede ultimately rounded of England’s humiliation, making the final score 4-2 and scoring an absolute stunner for his fourth.
However, Steven Caulker had an impressive debut, and his club manager Andre Villas-Boas was delighted to see his young centre-half get some international playing time under his belt. Speaking to the club’s official website, he said:
“It’s a big achievement for Steven. He’s taking everything on board, he’s very calm and it was great to see him out there.”
“He’s made a great breakthrough in coming into the side after his loan at Swansea and now England, at such a young age that is massive for him. I think he has the potential to be one of the best and hopefully that doesn’t put too much pressure on him as
he continues to develop his game.”
“He has faced competition, but has been patient. I think he’s done extremely well for us.”
Tottenham travel to the Emirates this weekend to face fierce local rivals Arsenal in the Premier League. Manager Andre Villas-Boas is looking to end Arsenal’s 18-year domination over them, and hopes that his side can get a result and bounce back from two
consecutive defeats.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 themselves need to bounce back after failing to win either of their last two games. With major Tottenham players a doubt for the game, the Gunners will be looking to capitalize and win all three points.
