Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas was disappointed after Spurs threw away their lead to draw 1-1 with Panathinaikos last night in the Europa League.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Dawson-c25288 had earned Tottenham the lead in the first half, but that goal was not enough as Panathinaikos came back late to secure a draw.
Tottenham had been the superior side for the majority of the game, and looked set to grab all three points as Dawson nodded home a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Orestis-Karnezis-c28646. From there onwards, it was all Tottenham as they attacked in search
for the second goal of the game.
However, the hosts seemed to have woken up towards the end of the game as Toche scored in the dying minutes to earn the home side a vital point in the group J fixture.
Tottenham had been clearly the better side, enjoyed more of the ball and had more shots on the opposition goal. Villas-Boas will be left frustrated after he saw his side unable to score convincingly.
Summer signing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-Lloris-c16408 got his second start for the club, and was unable to keep a clean sheet as Tottenham conceded a goal towards the end.
Villas-Boas looked clearly disappointed when the game ended. The manager will view this game as a missed opportunity, especially considering the home side’s mediocre start to the game. Tottenham drew their previous group J game at home to Italian club http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lazio-c39775,
and this second draw puts them at 3rd spot with 2 points.
Speaking to the club's official website after the game, Villas-Boas said:
“We had a very good first half, but not so well in the second for different reasons. We felt the heat and tiredness a little and lost control of the game and our possession.”
“In the first half we were superior, everyone feels disappointed for not putting the game to bed with the second goal. The disappointment comes from what we saw in the first half and not being able to do it in the second.”
“At the end, we congratulated the players at the final whistle, they made the effort and pushed themselves.”
