Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has told new goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brad-Friedel-c7953 as Spurs first choice shot stopper.
The French international goalkeeper and captain was the surprise signing of this summer’s deadline day. It was no secret that Spurs were interested in the Frenchman, with Villas-Boas himself publicly stating his appreciation for the player.
Tottenham had, time and time again, tried approaching Lyon to secure the goalkeeper’s signatures, but both clubs were unable to arrive at an agreement regarding his valuation. Lyon president http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jean-c18112 Michel-Aulas had been resolute in his stance regarding the
player, and was not willing to let him leave for anything less than what he thought was a fair price.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 had also reportedly been in the pursuit of the highly rated goalkeeper and had inquired about his availability. When Lyon learnt of the increased interest in their player, they immediately set a deadline for all interested parties to make a reasonable
and fair bid.
However, it was ultimately Tottenham that secured the player’s services and signed him for on deadline day. Lloris is Spurs’ most attractive and high profile signing of the summer and joins the North London club for a deal reported to be worth around £9.5
million.
Many expected that Lloris would be immediately given the number 1 jersey and restrict current first choice keeper Brad Friedel to the bench. However, Villas-Boas insists that there is no way that Lloris will be replacing the American without proving his
worth.
Friedel had an inspiring performance for Tottenham this past Saturday, where he made a series of impressive saves to keep Tottenham in the game as Norwich kept him busy for the greater part of the 90 minutes.
Villas-Boas hailed the veteran goalkeeper’s performance and said:
"When you transfer it's not written in the contract that you have to play," Villas-Boas said. "He [Lloris] has to compete against three good goalkeepers and at the moment Brad is doing extremely well.”
"He deserves to be playing and he'll continue to do so."
