Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has asked the fans to be patient as Spurs continue searching for their first win of the season.
Tottenham failed to secure a home win against Norwich on Saturday, scoring first and then conceding a goal towards the end. There were shades of the West Brom game on display, where Spurs lacked confidence and failed to convert their chances.
The defence looked shaky, and the whole team looked tensed as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brad-Friedel-c7953 kept Norwich at bay throughout the first hour. Had it not been for the veteran goalkeeper, Tottenham could’ve gone down 3-0.
New signing Moussa Dembele scored on his debut for Spurs, and looked well settled and comfortable in possession. The Belgian midfielder looks like a good replacement for the recently departed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857. The midfield was fluid, but up front, Tottenham failed
to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
Norwich equalized towards the end through a goal courtesy of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robert-c31222 Snodgrass, who had tormented the Spurs defence for the greater part of the game. This draw marked the third game without a win for Spurs, and the team was booed off the pitch by the fans.
Manager Andre Villas-Boas was quick to rush to his team’s defence in a post match interview and asked the fans to be patient with the squad.
"You have to accept their disappointment. It has not been the ideal start to the season, but it doesn't mean that we haven't been working hard to get the wins that our fans want," Villas-Boas said.
"They have to understand that we are doing everything in our power to get that win. Obviously this is not the start we wanted and the start we deserve."
"Today it was disappointing for us to suffer again in the dying moments of the game and we have to work on our sharpness and concentration to make sure it doesn't happen again."
The manager was however delighted with Dembele’s performance and insisted that a win for Spurs was not that far off. The Portuguese will need to address his defensive issues and push his strikers to work harder so the team can be more prolific.
