Andre Villas-Boas has revealed that he is still in the hunt for a striker before the transfer window shuts down.
The Portuguese manager is desperate to add a striker to his Tottenham Hotspur squad before the new Premier League season starts.
The manager is however, not going to rush into a decision and will wait and make a reasonable signing. He refused to be hurled into making an expensive signing that fails to work out for the club in the future, no matter how drastic and urgent the need for
the striker.
Villas-Boas is currently left with only http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jermain-Defoe-c18359 in the Spurs’ striking department. Defoe himself has featured as more of an impact player for Tottenham over the past season, and it is understood that he was keen on leaving the club in his search for
regular football and more playing minutes.
The manager has no other striking options at his disposal. The departure of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Emmanuel-Adebayor-c12526 has left Villas-Boas seriously short-staffed when it comes to goal-scoring options.
Adebayor enjoyed a successful loan spell last season and was understood to be a priority signing for Villas-Boas. The Togolese however, had other plans, as he refused to take the pay cut in securing his move to White Hart Lane, and has instead opted to see
out his lucrative contract with Manchester City.
Now, the manager has conceded to desperation, but has also insisted that he will not make an emergency signing, no matter what. Speaking to the press, he said:
"In this market it's important to make good, sound bids, not just to do anything for the sake of it. We are hopefully moving in the market in the next couple of days or weeks.”
"We are trying to deal with the market. Lots of teams are having difficulty, there's not a lot of money around and teams try to hold onto their assets as best they can.”
"We're just trying to make the best decisions possible before the start of the league - hopefully trying to solve the issue with one more striker before the Newcastle game.”
