Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has again stressed his ambitions to guide the club towards Europa League glory.
Tottenham failed to qualify for the Champions League, but still managed to attain European football. Even though missing out on the Champions League was seen as a blow to the club’s ambitions, the manager is hopeful of success in Europe’s second best competition.
Villas-Boas won the Europa League with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 two seasons ago, and is determined to lead his new club towards lifting the trophy. The manager had last week stated his desire to bring the Europa League trophy to White Hart Lane, and insists that it remains
a priority for him.
Previously, Tottenham had not paid much heed to the competition under former manager Harry Redknapp. The English manager had preferred to field out a relatively weaker team for the tournament, focusing more on the Premier League and Champions League qualification.
This is perhaps one of the reasons why the club parted ways with Redknapp, with chairman http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Levy stressing on winning silverware and bringing in Villas-Boas in the summer.
The manager had yesterday spoken about winning silverware with the club, and identified the Europa League as a realistic target.
Having won two back-to-back away games, Villas-Boas is now targeting a third successive away victory.
Tottenham drew their previous Europa League fixture at home against Lazio, but with their current domestic form, the manager is hoping for a European win with Tottenham.
"We have won two straight away games so to it would be nice to make it three against Panathinaikos," Villas-Boas said.
"It is very important for us to get that win to put us back on track in the group phase of the Europa League and then we are back to the Premier League so (a win) would be is good for everybody."
Spurs will be boosted by the return of striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Greece-c2908 with the Tottenham squad, although he is
unlikely to start the game.
