Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has hailed new signing Gylfi Sigurdsson and has stated that the Icelandic international will score important goals for the club in the coming season.
Sigurdsson has a proven track record in the Premier League, as was demonstrated by last season’s winter loan spell with Swansea City. Sigurdsson arrived at Swansea in January this year from German club Hoffenheim. The midfielder impressed everyone with his
performances for the Swans, scoring 7 goals in 18 appearances in his short time with the Welsh side.
He stood out as he operated in the heart of Swansea’s midfield. The player is known for his great long-range shooting ability, physical presence and his free-kick taking expertise.
The Icelandic international has also been a Reading player from 2008-2010, so he is no stranger to English football. The midfielder joined Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month on a long-term contract, becoming new manager Andre Villas-Boas’s first signing
of the summer.
Sigurdsson was quick to make an impact for his new club, scoring in the side’s first pre-season friendly against Stevenage which Tottenham won 2-0.

Though Sigurdsson operates further up the park and is not a box-to-box midfielder like Modric, he has exceptional passing range and can pick out his teammates quite easily.
Sigurdsson’s capture will lessen the burden that Tottenham’s midfield will be faced with once the Croatian leaves, and it is believed that Villas-Boas wants to sign Porto’s Joao Moutinho to further lessen the damage cause by Modric’s departure.
Moutinho’s arrival, together with Sigurdsson and Scott Parker in midfield, will surely fill the gaping hole that will be left by Modric’s exit.
Villas-Boas is confident that Sigurdsson will be a key player for Spurs next season, and has confessed that he wants the Scandinavian to contribute with goals.
“Gylfi has tremendous goal scoring attributes,” Villas-Boas told English newspapers.
“We have seen him open his account with a great goal, which is important for him. He has a real eye in front of goal. That’s vital in a player.”
