Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has challenged Tottenham to keep up their momentum and cement a top four spot come the end of the season.
Spurs managed an impressive 0-4 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park on Boxing Day and completely dismantled the hosts. The win takes Tottenham up to 4th spot, level on points with Everton and West Brom.
Andre Villas-Boas looked a happy and ecstatic man as his team scored 4 goals in the second half and won him the 3 points. The Portuguese was especially delighted by star winger Gareth Bale’s hat-trick and his dazzling performance in the second half.
Tottenham will now travel to Sunderland today and will be targeting a win in order to cement their place in the top 4 and keep the pressure on Chelsea, who are two points ahead of them with a game in hand.
The Premier League table is currently very tight and only five points separate Tottenham from 8th place Stoke and Villas-Boas is very much aware of this fact. The Portuguese knows his team cannot afford to slip up, especially with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429
and West Brom lurking below them.
Villas-Boas is also aware of last season’s mishap when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 won the Champions League and qualified for the elite European tournament at the expense of Tottenham, who missed out on it despite finishing in 4th place.
The manager does not want the situation to repeat itself this season, and is focusing on securing a place in the tournament for the club. Speaking to reporters, he said:
“At the moment everyone is packed together, which is dangerous. What we want to do is have a stronger second half to the season than last year. We have to continue to hopefully open a gap between us and the rest of the teams that sit near at the top.”
“Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United will compete for the title between them. For the top four Everton are there, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 will come back strongly and definitely there is always a surprise team – last year it was Newcastle, this year it’s West
Brom.”
Tonight’s game will therefore be very crucial for Tottenham going into the New Year, and a win will be just what the doctor ordered.
