Camilo Villegas misses the cut with several followers in Honda Classic - Golf News
Camilo Villegas, the defending champion of the Honda Classic missed the cut along with several other top guns after the end of the Friday session at the at PGA National Resort & Spa’s Champion Course.
Villegas, who won last year’s title, bogeyed five and double-bogeyed three holes against two birdies on the second day of the $5.7 million tournament.  The Spaniard teed off from the front and managed to earn a birdie in the opening hole. The confidence
boost did not last too long and the immediate loss on the third hole shattered his pace. The player tried countering off the loss with a successful attack on the pin of the following hole, but consecutive failures at the next holes resulted in a permanent
fall in the ranking table.
Villegas closed the first half with a score of five-over-par, which was a huge blow to his confidence. The 29-year-old walked to the back with a wayward approach, but once again failed to conquer the course, the way he did in 2010. He bogeyed the opening
and two of the closing holes on the back before birdying the last and capped the round at 8-over-par.
He slipped out of the tournament after compiling an aggregate of 17-over in 36 holes.
Needless to mention, the Spaniard was extremely disappointed with his game.  He said that the weather played a major role in creating havoc on the course.  He explained that the wind was too strong, which made it difficult to putt on the hard greens and
most of his shots were deflected into the bunkers, and kept building the pressure on him.
Villegas was joined by India’s Arjun Atwal (76), Australia’s Adam Scott (82), England’s Ross Fisher (72), and local seed Rickie Fowler (72).
The worst score was produced by Mike Weir, who posted 85 on the second day of the tournament after carding 77 in the first round. The golfer had five double-bogeys and four bogeys in the 18-hole session.
Bad weather and wind has once again have done great damage to the scorecards of several players. The weather is expected to remain the same until Sunday. The next round of play will show who falls victim to the relentless winds on the course.
