  1. No, it wouldn't be a good idea. Versailles takes a whole day to visit without rushing. If you wanted to do both in the same day, you'd have to:

    - buy your admission ticket to the Versailles chateau in advance to avoid wasting 1+ hour in the waiting line.

    - arrive a little before the 9:00 am opening

    - leave at 1:00 pm to get the 1:25 pm RER back to Paris and to the Gare du Nord train station to arrive there by 2:30 pm.

    - Take the 2:54 pm train to Vimy and once there, find your way to the memorial which is actually located in a neighboring village (contact the town to get info on that and ask if you would need to reserve a taxi)

You would be arriving there at 5:00 pm, one hour before the center's closing time and will have spent the whole day rushing and keeping an eye on your watch instead of enjoying Versailles. Plus I really don't know how you could find time for lunch unless you'd packed a sandwich in your bag.

What you could do if you really want to visit Vimy Ridge is take a later train to Vimy, spend the night there and visit it in the morning and get back to Paris.
