Vin # on 1973 camper trailer?

Do camper trailers prior to 1980 have a vin#? We have looked everywhere and cant find one not to mention having the police run the tag that is on it and it comes back with a title number and no vin. The lady at the tag agency said she needs a vin# to give us a temp tag but,everything shows there isn't one.

Generally, they are a small aluminum plate that is screwed in near the doorway. If there isn't one, and the police run it and it's titled but no VIN, you can have a VIN assigned by law enforcement. They will inspect and issue a number for it, you take the documents to the DMV and title/register as normal. A small fee may apply to have the VIN assigned.
