Vince Carter confident of at least two more years in NBA – Phoenix Suns Update
Phoenix Suns’ veteran Vince Carter recently sat down for an interview to talk about his future, which is under a bit of cloud, as it has been for many veterans due to the NBA lockout. Carter however revealed that he planned to
stick around for at least a couple more years.
Vince Carter is one of the most iconic players in the NBA right now. Carter became a cult hero for many NBA fans in the late 90s and early 2000s due to his high flying, gravity defying, and jaw dropping dunks alone. Add to that
his all around game, shooting and you have a truly amazing basketball player.
However gone are the days when the highlight reel Carter used to invade one arena after another. He is now a more reserved player, not at all that explosive and his body aches, due to string of injuries, have worn him down.
Vince started his career at the Toronto Raptors, where he carried the franchise on his shoulders for many years. However a lack of support in terms of quality teammates meant that the player couldn’t achieve the level of success
his mammoth talent justified. He then switched to the New Jersey Nets to team up with Jason Kidd and go looking for the NBA World Championship, but it just wasn’t to be.
Now a shell of his old self, Carter is on his last ropes. Still, the 34 year old averaged 14.0 points per game last season alongside 3.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists. He can be a good player if his body lets him to be. However, it
is very unlikely Carter will be retained by his current side, the Phoenix Suns.
Carter has $18.9 million contract that the Suns desperately want to get out of. Next year, they are likely to pay Vince $4 million, the buyout of his clause, making him a free agent looking for a new team. Carter isn’t scared of
that challenge though and believes he could be a good addition to a number of teams around the league and that he wants to stick around for 2 more years.
“You may not know where, but you have to be ready to play. I still want to play a couple more years,” said Carter. He also ruled out the possibility of playing abroad, something many NBA players are considering since the league
went into lockout. “I’d rather just wait and see what happens.”
At the end Carter was asked what were his plans after retirement, with coaching having been touted as a possibility, but the player was non committal as of yet,
"I remember when I said I definitely want to coach," he said. "Then there was a period where I said there was no way I'd coach. Now I'm like, 'Well, I don't know.' "
