Vince Young proves his selection as Eagles beat Giants 17-10 in Week 11 – NFL Recap
Philadelphia Eagles were worried throughout the week because of the injured ribs of their quarterback Michael Vick. He could not make it to the final line-up and Vince Young got an opportunity to replace him on Sunday.
Young made most of this chance and managed two passing touchdowns, made three interceptions and sent 23 successful passes of 36 attempts for 258 yards to lead his team to a victory against New York Giants 17-10 at the MetLife Stadium
in the week 11 game of the National Football League current season.
"Vince, stepping in for the great Michael Vick, that's a tough thing to do and he did it and the guys rallied around him," Eagles’ Coach Andy Reid said. "The offensive line and defensive line played well, the offensive line had
a huge challenge when it counted and they were able to put some things together."
The competition between the sides remained even throughout the game and a strong defence from both sides resulted in two goal-less quarters.
The first score of the game was marked in the second quarter when Eagles’ kicker Alex Henery scored a 33-yard field goal to open the team’s account 3-0. Next in line was a 14-yard pass from Vince Young to wide receiver Steve Smith,
who scored a touchdown to take the lead 10-0. Giants’ reply came in the form of a 48-yard field goal from Lawrence Tynes right at the end of the second quarter. The halftime score was 10-3.
After a goalless third quarter, Giants scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter to level the score 10-10. Quarterback Eli Manning threw a 24-yard pass to wide receiver Victor Cruz who finished the run for the equaliser.
The last five minutes of the game were the most anxious. Vince Young proved his selection by throwing an eight-yard touchdown pass to Riley Cooper who ensured that the ball got to its destination. The final score settled at 17-10
in favour of Eagles.
Eagles got their fourth victory of the season and are placed second in the National Football Conference East division. On the other hand, the fourth defeat in the season for Giants has forced them to drop out in the same division
at second spot, something that has not pleased the coach at all.
“This is as big a disappointment as we have had around here in a long time," Giants coach Tom Coughlin said about the defeat.
