Manchester City defender, Vincent Kompany has gone on to label fatigue as being the prime reason behind City losing out to Manchester United in the Community Shield.
City took a two goal lead in the game at Wembley, but went on to slip up in the second half, as they let United put three goals past them and secure the win.
Following the game, Kompany went on to talk about the tiresome pre season that City took part in and is quoted to have said: "We were a bit tired. Pre-season has been long and heavy and you are looking to be at your best at the beginning of the season and we will be.”
"As I said the result could have gone either way. We have shown we are not normally the sort of side who concedes goals once we are all set."
What was remarkable about United’s win, was the fact that the winning goal was scored in the very last minute of injury time. Kompany went on to have a slip up near the half way line and this allowed Luis http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joe-Hart-c18699 and slide the ball into the back of the net.
Kompany went on to admit that the final goal was most probably his fault, but also claimed that such incidents occur with centre backs all the time, so he wasn’t going to worry too much about it.
The defender ended by stating: "It happens, if you are a centre-half with a lot of responsibility but you have to take it - that is what football is all about"
It was kind of disappointing to City go so close to landing the Community Shield and then falter at the  last possible instance and see their silverware hopes go down the drain.
Despite Kompany being blamed for the final goal, there was very little the player could do to avoid it. The ball that was played to him came at a very awkward height and just as he was trying to get a touch on it, Nani broke free and went on to put the final nail in City’s Community Shield hopes, coffin.
Nonetheless, with the Community Shield now out of the way, the team can focus on bigger games that will take place in the near future. City are set to feature in the Champions League and are also going to be contesting for the Premier League crown this coming season. As a result, they will have plenty of opportunities to get the upper hand on United before the year is over.
