Vincent Kompany turns his focus on Europa League following Manchester City’s exit from the Champions League
Manchester City defender and Belgian international, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vincent-Kompany-c36184 has gone on to turn his attention on the Europa League and is hopeful that the rest of the team can do the same.
City went on to beat Bayern Munich in the Champions League last night, but following a poor build up to the game, they needed all three points to ensure their progress from the group stage.
Apart from the win, the team also needed Villarreal to beat Napoli, otherwise the Italian team would claim the second spot in the group standings and qualify along with Munich, for the knock out stages.
When talking about the Champions League and his sides journey in the tournament, Kompany is quoted to have said: “We have our 10 points but obviously this opponent [Bayern Munich], fair play to them. Well done to Napoli, they have a good team”
“It’s the biggest mistake anyone can make, to underestimate this team [http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003]. Champions League is finished now but there’s still so much to achieve now this season.”
The player then turned his attention to the Europa League and admitted that his team possessed a massive opportunity in the form of the Europa League, since they could potentially win their first every European trophy.
So far this season, City have been one of the best teams to watch, in just about every competition that they have participated in. The team is still turning heads in the Premier League and is yet to go on and lose a single game in the competition.
At the same time, the team is sitting in a very comfortable position in the Carling Cup and the FA Cup.
As a result, what can be said assuredly, is that the team is going to end up winning a trophy or two this season.
However, the only question that remains is if the team is going to be able to taste European glory this time around.
It is now going to be a wait to see just how City perform in the Europa League and whether the team goes on and picks up a trophy or not.
