While talking to the media, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 president, Vincent Labrune, spoke about the future of the Rhone giants and even chose to have a go at cash-laden rivals, Paris Saint-Germain
Rather quiet in recent weeks, Olympique de Marseille president, Vincent Labrune, chose to come out in the open and spoke about various issues that his club faces.
By the end of the current campaign, Les Phoceens might miss out on the next season’s edition of the UEFA Champions League. Failure to qualify for the Champions League would certainly be blamed for a poor start to the current campaign.
On September 18, 2012, Les Phoceens lost 2-0 to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 at the Stade de Gerland to further fall behind the Champions League places. However, since then, the Rhone giants have mounted a strong comeback.
Despite recovering so well, Deschamps’ men might still miss out on the Champions League which means that the club’s financial situation won’t improve as they will not be able to secure big TV rights deals.
When asked by So Foot regarding the club’s policy in recruitment and other things, Labrune chose to criticise the old management.
“For ten years at OM, we buy players whose value doubles. Amalfitano is huge and I’m sure he will be in the Euro next June. N’Koulou is a phenomenon, Morel is very good and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alou-Diarra-c5259 brings experience and physical impact. Brandao? He is part of the family.”
Happy to have some good players in the squad despite a limited budget, Labrune also took some time out to have a go at bitter rivals Paris Saint-Germain.
Since the arrival of the Qataris, PSG have become one of the most active European clubs in the transfer market. However, Labrune is not scared of his rivals’ financial muscle.
“In http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 there is a big club, not two and it is OM. The current PSG? This is a Real Madrid playing the Championnat of France. PSG have put 100 million Euros in transfers this year.”
Labrune even went as far as suggesting the rivalry between the two clubs in the mould of Asterix against the Romans which would certainly infuriate PSG.
