Following a second straight defeat courtesy Toulouse, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 president, Vincent Labrune has stepped into the breach and has asked his players to give a good account for themselves when they play Evian TG
From December 2011 to February 2012, Olympique de Marseille were in the heart of an impressive winning streak that took them close to a UEFA Champions League spot. However, a poor start to the month of March has seen Les Phoceens fall far behind in the race
for the final Champions League qualification spot.
After losing to Stade Brestois, Les Phoceens lost at home to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Toulouse-FC-c40751 after a long time. Though the result was a good and historic one for Les Pitchouns coach Alain Casanova, it puts a lot of pressure on the Rhone giants who may not feature in Europe
at all next season if this trend continues.
President of OM, Vincent Labrune knows better than anyone what the consequences will be if Les Phoceens don’t feature in Europe. The Frenchman has now stepped into the breach and has asked his players to show a strong reaction when they face a resurgent
Evian TG in their next Ligue 1 game.
“My role as president and that of the shareholder is to anticipate financial problems and find solutions. We will find them and will have a competitive team next season even though, in terms of image and reputation, the Champions League is important to us.”
Marseille have already registered losses of around 20 million Euros this season and owner, Margarita Louis-Dreyfus is keen to get something out of a tricky situation.
Currently in eight place in the Ligue 1 standings with 39 points from 25 games, Marseille chase LOSC Lille by eight points which means that Les Phoceens have more than just a mountain to climb in order to give themselves any chance of featuring in the Champions
League or Europa League next season.
On Tuesday, Marseille travel to Gaillard to face Evian TG who are not at all a pushover. A bad result against the newly-promoted side would certainly spell the end of Deschamps’ side’s hopes of playing in Europe which means that time for a good reaction
is most definitely now.
