Despite a turbulent time off late, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 president, Vincent Labrune has given coach Didier Deschamps his full backing
Things have gone from bad to horrible for Olympique de Marseille since the beginning of the second half of the campaign. The Rhone giants made a dreadful start to the new campaign but recovered after some time. However, the recovery was short-lived as the
start of 2012 saw Marseille return to where they started this season.
A string of defeats and draws in Ligue 1 have left the Rhone giants in 9th place in the Ligue 1 standings. Their low position means that qualification for Champions League is now out of the question. Furthermore, Marseille should struggle to even
qualify for the Europa League as the likes of Stade Rennais, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130, Toulouse and AS Saint-Etienne might not drop points on a regular basis.
All these results have posed a lot of questions over the future of Didier Deschamps. The former Juventus manager was on the verge of leaving Marseille last summer but Vincent Labrune convinced him to stay. The Marseille supremo is still a big fan of the
former World Cup winner and has said that he is still keen to keep hold of the tactician.
“In life, there are events in which we suffer and therefore take decisions. What we suffered at OM since last summer, are significant financial losses due to the transfer window of 2010. We wish to keep Didier, to extend his contract, to protect him in difficult
times, to defend him and to be with him.”
Certainly, Didier Deschamps would be overwhelmed by Labrune’s statements. The Marseille president is fully aware of the fact that the club is right now incapable of signing a good manager and should do well to keep hold of Deschamps who has done everything
he could to save Marseille.
Deschamps was never really given the players he wanted at Marseille but the French tactician still managed to make something out of nothing.
Furthermore, it was Deschamps who guided Marseille to their first Championelle (2010) since 1992.
Marseille’s league position is certainly appalling but sacking Deschamps would be even more so.
