Vincent Labrune has saved http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 8.7 million Euros this summer – report
Chairman of Ligue 1 giants Olympique de Marseille, Vincent Labrune has become a crucial part of the Phoceens direction since replacing Jean-Claude Dassier. The Frenchman replaced Dassier earlier this summer and took huge steps in minimising the burden on
the club’s hefty payroll.
By letting go of several players this summer, Les Phoceens have achieved significant savings in financial terms.
This summer, the Rhone outfit signed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Lorient-c39153) and Djimi Traore (free agent) inspite of the club’s financial problems.
However, true to his word, Labrune has significantly improved Marseille’s financial situation which was in shambles to say the least during the reign of Jean-Claude Dassier.
While talking to La Marseillaise, Labrune said, “The degreasing operation was successful. Sure, we have been criticised for not cashing in on the departures but we simply could not afford so many wages. We should not be deluded.”
Termination of the contracts of ageing players like Edouard Cisse (33), Vitorino http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gabriel-Heinze-c14310 (33) has allowed the Rhone outfit to clean up their finances. The club will now save around 8.7 million Euros per year following
departures of the aforementioned players.
Though Marseille have not made a big signing this summer, Didier Deschamps now has a well-trimmed squad available at his disposal and the French tactician will no more worry about those players who he felt would not be in his plans for the 2011/2012 campaign.
8.7 million Euros is a good piece of business done for owner Margarita Louis-Dreyfus and would go a long way in ensuring the stability of the club’s financial situation for years to come.
