The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 president has defended the appointment of the former Nantes coach who has signed a two-year contract with the Rhone club after a three-year hiatus from management
Elie Baup will be the new coach of Olympique de Marseille for the next two seasons. The Frenchman was swiftly brought in to replace Didier Deschamps who decided to end his time at the club in order to pursue a new challenge.
While talking to the media during Baup’s unveiling, club president, Vincent Labrune said that the club received a lot of applications and had a wide range of coaches to choose from. However, for Labrune, Baup presented the best option and shareholder Margarita
Louis-Dreyfus was also keen on having the 57-year-old at the helm.
“He (Baup) has a clear vision for the club, his analysis of the situation and prospects were consistent with the needs of the club for this season and future,” said Labrune who feels that Baup was the only right choice for the club.
However, many people still have a lot of reservations about the recent appointment. Labrune was fully aware of Deschamps’ wishes way back in May this year but it seems that he still waited for the Frenchman to say something officially before acting.
The fact remains that Elie Baup is a pretty good option considering his wide experience of coaching Ligue 1 sides.
After reviewing games for Canal Plus for almost three years, Baup is indeed happy to find a bench as prestigious as that of Marseille’s. Baup, whose playing career was ended prematurely due to a car accident, thanked Marseille for showing so much confidence
in him and has vowed to give his everything to the club.
“I always thought about being a coach. I want to thank all of the club’s management for the proposed project and the confidence given to me. This dynamic model encouraged me and I will give everything for the club.”
Baup is now in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Switzerland-c3016 where he will meet up with the players at his disposal and the staff available to him.
It is also important to see how he his relationship with Andre-Pierre Gignac pan out as during his time as Toulouse coach, Baup placed the striker on the bench.
