Despite being eliminated during the group stages of the UEFA Europa League, the end of the first half of the 2012/2013 Ligue 1 campaign has been worth remembering for all those who are related to Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille.
The start of the season has been a positive one for the Rhone giants who only last season, had to face so many disappointments including a 10th place finish in the season that ended their long run in the UEFA Champions League every season.
Furthermore, a mass exodus of players (http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alou-Diarra-c5259, Cesar Azpilicueta and Stephane Mbia) was witnessed by the residents of Stade Velodrome along with the resignation of Didier Deschamps who chose to try his luck with the French national side.
However, seeing the club sink so low in the first half of 2012 was something the club’s president Vincent Labrune wants to forget. Despite seeing sporting director Jose Anigo and Deschamps bicker like 12-year-olds for the past one year or so, Labrune maintains
that he has a lot of respect for the coach who helped the club to its first Championelle in many years just a few seasons back.
“I am a pragmatic and I’m a fan of football. Didier is someone who gained a lot in French football. He allowed us to regain titles. I will not forget, and I will never discredit him for that. I have respect for him for what he did at OM in an environment
which was not easy, because it is a big club.”
And seeing Deschamps leave gave Jose Anigo the opportunity to return to the duties he did before his falling out with the Frenchman. Labrune says that it was Deschamps’ wish to leave the club and he will always respect his decision to walk out.
“He (Anigo) resumed his natural role this season and his work by my side is the reason behind the success that we have seen in these six months. Returning to Didier, it was he who wished to leave. He was there for three years. It was his decision, I respected
it.”
