While talking to media, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 president, Vincent Labrune, has made it clear that though the club will sell one or two players this summer, there will be no massive player exodus
Olympique de Marseille president, Vincent Labrune, is certainly one of the busiest presidents in French football at the moment. The Frenchman’s biggest priority is to balance the finances of the club, devise a plan B if Europe is not in the offing next season,
to keep hold of Didier Deschamps and to make sure that a player exodus doesn’t occur in the summer transfer window.
In a press conference, the Marseille supremo gave his full support to coach Didier Deschamps whose future has come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks. The former Juventus manager was on the brink of resigning from his post at the Rhone club last summer
but was convinced into staying by Labrune.
Now, it is Labrune who has given the under-fire manager his full backing despite recent results.
Qualifying for the Champions League is out of the questions and same can be said of the Europa League. The only way Marseille can feature in Europe next season is if they are able to beat http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 in the final of the Coupe de la Ligue.
However, the summer transfer window will see a few players leave the Velodrome for sure. The likes of Loic Remy, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steve-Mandanda-c34177, Stephane Mbia and Nicolas N’Koulou are all rumoured to be looking towards the exit door.
Though he admits that departures are likely to occur, Labrune does not want to hear about a player exodus.
“For two summers, we had little revenue. We sold one player in 2010 and none last summer. It is necessary that we sell one or two players. I would have said something else if we were second. For me, the goal is to keep the team as competitive as possible
for next year. So this means that the best players in the team are not taken away.”
Certainly, Marseille is now a shadow of its former self and one can only have sympathy for Labrune who is trying his best to pacify a situation that might even get out of hands in the near future.
